MgO, white powder or colourless crystals,
formed when magnesium is burned in air or
oxygen; a typical basic oxide. It is used to
treat acidity of the stomach, and in some
industrial processes - for example as a
lining brick in furnaces, as it is very
stable when heated (refractory oxide).
